Albania has been growing economically in recent years. Poverty has been reduced and progress has been made. They have a very long way to go and do require assistance.

Islamic Relief

Islamic Relief began their work in Albania in 1991. The war had isolated Albania and living conditions were poor. Unrest was hampering the progress of the Albanian people. This was when Islamic Relief reached out a generous hand and began helping with the urgent needs of the people. They were responsible for providing food and clothing to the people what had suffered from the effects of the war. In 1992 Islamic Relief opened up an office. They wanted to implement projects to help Albanians in the future. They helped the people learn the tools and skills they required to be able to begin helping themselves. Their most recent projects have included aid in seasonal food and improvements in water access. Simply put, Islamic Relief has made a difference.

Children’s Human Rights Centre

The Children’s Human Rights Centre is an organization who specializes in the rights of children. They were established in 1997 in Tirana. After well over eleven years of hard work they become established as one of the Albanian governments major partners at both the local and national levels. They have the ability to pressure the government to improve and respect the rights of children in their country. They have strengthened the capacity of the government staff so they are able to work with the children. They influence the governments legislation and policies. Also referred to as the CRCA, they promote the protection of children from exploitation, violence and abuse while teaching people to respects the children’s rights. They have increased the participation of children at local and national levels with the use of improvements in the legislation and policies, through advocacy and lobby, capacity building and research and information. They have established much better models for the protection and care of the children. They promote the implementation of the UN Convention regarding children’s rights.

Albanian Centre for Human Rights

The Albanian Center was established in 1992. They are an independent organization who have dedicated themselves to promoting education and knowledge regarding human rights, procedures and standards. They are not affiliated with the government and their focus is to develop a civil society with stability.
